2026 Chevy Tahoe

The Chevy Tahoe is one of two full-size SUVs built by Chevrolet, offering a family-friendly option for drivers who need that spacious third row. It’s built on the same platform as the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, but it’s not to be confused with the other full-size SUV in Chevy’s stable, the Chevy Suburban. The Suburban offers a three-row cabin as well, but is fifteen inches longer, which makes it a little more unwieldy if you don’t need the extra space. Chevy’s Tahoe is a year removed from a styling refresh that gave it a brand-new look and added plenty more features. The new Chevy Tahoe is loaded with display screens, while the optional diesel powertrain gets more power than previous Tahoes. All told, the upgrades have helped the Tahoe cement its grip on the full-size SUV market, and the Tahoe has earned the number one spot in Car and Driver’s full-size SUV rankings with a 10/10 score. In the sections below, we’ll preview everything you need to know about the Chevy SUV, from the Chevy Tahoe fuel efficiency rating to the cargo volume. New Chevy Tahoe Towing Capacity and Performance

Usually, the Tahoe comes with one of two V-8 engines. The base model is a 5.3-liter that makes 355 horsepower, joined by a 6.2-liter that makes 420 horsepower. Both come with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the norm, though all-wheel drive is available. If you’d like a diesel engine, there’s a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six that makes 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. It features the same transmission. With the largest engine, the Tahoe can hustle from 0 to 60 in about 5.8 seconds. Depending on your engine configuration, the Tahoe can tow anywhere from 8,200 to 8,400 lbs. The Tahoe has many strong points, but fuel economy isn’t one of them. The diesel isn’t terrible, getting 22 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, but standard gas engines get just 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. 2026 Chevy Tahoe Trim Levels and Cargo Space

The Tahoe isn’t as long as its sibling, the Chevy Suburban, but it still packs enough cargo volume for most families. You can seat up to nine with a front row bunch option, but a standard seating array with captain’s seats in the middle row allows room for seven. Behind the rear row, you’ll find 25.5 cubic feet of cargo volume, with 72.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 122.9 cubic feet of total cargo volume. For 2026, the Tahoe comes in the following six trim levels:

While each trim level offers something unique, the Z71 is the most fun to highlight, as it comes with the off-road specs. The Chevy Tahoe Z71 is equipped with aluminum skid plates, recovery hooks, an Autotrac two-speed active transfer case, and the option for an Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. 2026 Tahoe Safety and Technology

The infotainment display was one of the biggest changes in last year’s upgrade. Since 2025, all Tahoes have come equipped with a 17.7-inch touchscreen tilted toward the driver, allowing easy access to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and plenty of other software. It sits next to an 11-inch digital instrument cluster that rests just behind the steering wheel. A wireless charging pad sits in the center of the console, while a Bose stereo system and a rear-seat entertainment system are optional tech features. The Tahoe earned a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA this year and comes equipped with standard driver-assistance features like an HD surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and other safety technology.
